STUDY QUESTIONS AND WRITING PROMPTS

Do you think the United States military was justified in killing Osama bin Laden instead of trying to bring him to trial?

Do you think Anthony Fowler should have been found guilty of something? (If not murder, perhaps a lesser offense?)

The death penalty remains controversial, with some people defending the death penalty and others opposed. How do you feel?

If you are opposed to the death penalty, can you think of cases in which the death penalty might be warranted?

Do you believe there are instances in which killing should not be considered a crime?

Many states divide the crime of murder into various levels, with first degree the most serious, second degree less serious, and crimes called manslaughter less serious. Can you think of killings which should not be considered as serious and which would carry lesser penalties?
